Bacon Day Breakfast

Step 1 Wake Up
After 11 AM

Step 2 Buy Bacon
Get the good stuff. I don't have a butcher nearby but the organic market down the street came through. Thick cut. All natural. No antibiotics. No added Hormones. All Vegetarian feed. No Preservatives. MMMMMMM. Happy pigs make happy bacon.

Step 3 Open Bacon
Use a fancy Japanese knife if you want a cool looking picture.

Step 4 Warm Pan
Put a little oil in the pan so they don't stick and warm the pan on medium heat. Wait till it is hot to put the bacon in.

Step 4 Cook Bacon
Put the bacon in the pan. Don't crowd. let it cook.

Step 5 Wait
Take a deep smell of the glorious bacon.

Step 6 Almost Ready to Flip
Do the first flip when the bacon is starting to get brown on the pan side.

Step 7 Flip Bacon
Don't just flip. You must rotate to ensure maximum cookage.

Step 8 Be the Bacon
You must employ all 5 senses to achieve bacon nirvana. Ignore your personal ego. It's all about the bacon.

Step 9 Flip Again
When the edges start to get crispy it's time to flip the bacon again.

Step 10 Perfect Bacon
I like the whole range of bacon. A little crispy on the edges, mostly crunchy, a little soft on the wrinkles.

Step 11 The Bacon Gods Will Strike You Down if You Waste That Bacon Grease
May I suggest eggs?

Step 12 Holy Shit

Step 13 Lightly Dress Eggs
I went with some sea salt, fresh ground pepper, and some hot sauce.

Step 14 Eat
Wallow in the glorious amazing bacon. You are one step closer to enlightenment.

Business Card Design

My sister wanted to see my business card and so here it is. When I'm out shooting pictures people always ask where where I'll post the photos. I tell them my name and to look me up on flickr, but I doubt anyone ever remembers my name. I decided to make these cards to guide people to my flickr so they can go check out my pictures and help promote myself. I ordered them from moo and I couldn't be happier with the result. I ordered 100 cards for 20 bucks or so and the print turned out very nice. On the back of the card it simply says~~

Other than a couple extreme Frisbee session mentioned earlier, I've also been busy working on a portrait portfolio. I've spent more money on camera equipment than I'd like to think about so I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try and get a couple $$$$ back.

Howdy. First couple days were rough, but I've spent a nice day in Santa Cruz consisting of a couch to sleep on, cafes, beers, and naps on the beach.I'm heading back out on the road today to Monterey and then to Big Sur.

Solo touring offers challenges and rewards and I've experienced both, and had plenty of time to think about it all.

Well~ I'm off. I'll probably be outside for the next four days and then back to San Francisco.

Ride To Half Moon Bay

We decided to take the old hwy to Half Moon Bay avoiding Devils Slide. It's a fun ride with no traffic (it's closed to cars), but it is much higher and longer, and it has a lot of loose gravel in patches. Due to the gravel and pot holes in the old road the down hill portion was ruined and the ride took much longer than planned. I would not recomend taking this route with road bikes.

I freaking love this hostel. It has a nice big kitchen with friendly staff, but most of all I absolutely love the giant front room. It is absolutely the largest and most comfy room in any hostel I've ever been to. It has 6 giant tables and a grip of plush couches, High ceiling and more picture travel books than you could shake a stick at. Something about hanging out in this room made me incredibly happy. All of this just few miles out of San Francisco and for 21 bucks! I'm so happy I found this place I'm going to make it a regular weekend get away.

Marin Headlands Trip ~ Getting there

The Marin Headlands ride is a fun and easy way to get out of the city. Because it is close to San Francisco I think people don't give the ride the credit it deserves. There is a lot to see and explore in the area and I like to take my time and enjoy the ride. I also recommend staying at the Marin Headlands hostel. For only 20 bucks a night this was one of the cheapest and easiest vacations I've ever been on. It's only 11 miles out of the city, but it's far enough away completely relax and forget about all your worries.

Route~

1. Golden Gate Bridge
Cross the Golden Gate Bridge. Please enjoy the view and don't haul ass across the bridge. It's a narrow path with frequent crosswinds. There is plenty of opportunities on this trip to go fast, please take the bridge slow. (yeah, I'm talking to you, jackass with bright red spandex)

2. Parking Lot
On the other side of the bridge go through the parking lot and turn left up onto Conzelman road. It's about an 800 ft. ride to the top, but it's not a very steep incline.

3. Hawk Hill
Good job! you made it up the hill. Take a minute to rest and enjoy the views of the city. Get ready for one of my favorite descents in the area :D

4. Right into Field Road
After taking the turn just stay on the road until the tunnel.

5. Tunnel
This is a one way tunnel so you'll have to wait for traffic to come through the other side. There is a button to push that will warn traffic of bikes in the tunnel. Remember to take off your sunglasses and be wary of the occasional wet patch. After the tunnel take a right back to point number two and head back across the bridge.

4 weeks 3 Days till the ride

One reason I decided to do this ride was because I've been in a little funk lately. I don't think it's a problem to feel blue every once in while, but I was using up all my energy feeling sorry for myself. I read this quote from Viktor Frankl the other day and it made me realize that I need to get my shit together.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life—daily and hourly. Our answer must consist, not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual."

I decided that the best way to get out of my funk was to get focus on this ride. The first thing I need to do is clean up my environment. That is my goal for today. I'm going to clean my room and do laundry and surround myself with some good food.

Santa Cruz Trip Additional Info

To get home from Santa Cruz you can put your bike on a shuttle bus that will take you to Cal Train in San Jose. It is $4.00 ride the shuttle. You have to bring two bungie cords to strap you bike on the bus.
Here is a link to the bus schedule.

The Shuttle will drop you off at San Jose Diridon station. It is $7.50 to get back to San Francisco on the Cal Train.

My first real bike tour. Starting in 5 weeks 0 days

I’ve decided that starting on May 22nd I’m going on an 10 day bike tour. With this decision I’ve also decided to take my blog in a slightly different direction. I’ll still be filling the pages with pictures of San Francisco, but I’m also going to use it to document the preparations for my trip.

The main preparations I need to take are~

1) Getting myself ready mentally and physically.
2) Getting my bike and gear ready.
3) Getting my camera ready.
4) Planning the trip.

Here is what I have so far~~

As for my mind and body, I’m going to stop eating out as much (for health and money) and eat lots of unprocessed food. On the way to work this morning I got; dried fruit, oranges, bananas, carrots, milk, high fiber cereal, yogurt, almonds, raisins, string cheese, whole grain bread, turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. This should be enough for breakfast, morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack for about a week.

I’ve decided that I’m going to stop drinking for the next 5 weeks (I'll let myself go out once somewhere in the middle to reward myself and keep up steam). To be completely honest, I think this is the #1 thing I can do to save money and improve my health (mental and physical). I’m going to try and ride at least 100 miles a week including overnight trips with all my gear as much as possible. I plan on doing a lot of riding on the weekends (I’ll have to do something with all the time I won’t waste drinking/hungover).

Bike and gear. This will depend on how much money I can pony up. A new bike would be nice, but I definitely need camping equipment; tent, sleeping bag, mat, cooking gear. I will probably need a front rack and front panniers too. I will probably purchase some clip pedals too.

Camera. This also depends on how much money I can find. I’d like a couple new pieces of glass and a new lightweight tripod. I will also keep working on my landscape and urban photography.

Planning. I have no clue where I’m going yet. I’m thinking coastal, but that could change.

I have exactly 5 weeks to figure everything out and get my self ready. I’ll keep a daily log (or almost daily) here on my blog.

One Size Fits Most, TriBeCa bars put the rider in the ideal aggresive yet relaxed position on the bike for radgnar traffic cutting. With the decrease in rotational mass compared to your former bars, your bike will practically barspin itself.
